The Consulate General of Belgium in Cape Town provides all kinds of administrative assistance to Belgians and other nationalities residing in the Cape provinces.
Amongst the wide range of services are passports and visa the most known. However, verification of nationality files, adoption, civil status, providing all sorts of information about living in Belgium, studies etc; make part of the job as well. Besides the administrative tasks, representing Belgium at official functions, assisting the Embassy of Belgium in Pretoria with high level visits, liaising with economic and academic leaders in the region, collaborating and organizing functions and events to promote Belgium abroad - even in weekends and after office hours – are often on the menu. Flexibility is a must: as every day is different, so are the questions, problems, and challenges to be taken care of.
But most important, we deal with people - we see you as an individual, so we will act that way to find the best solution to your query.
As a public administration, Wallonia-Brussels International (WBI) is responsible for the international relations of the Walloon Region and the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, both French speaking entities of the Belgian federal state. Thanks to its exclusive capacities in various and essential areas (amongst others: education, economy, energy, culture, research, environment, etc.) and the international extension of these fields, WBI developed a particularly dense network abroad.
In 2019, this network was further expanded thanks to a new cooperation with South Africa. Since then, WBI has focused on the development of cultural & academic relations between South Africa and French-speaking Belgium.
In 1994, the Government of Flanders opted for South Africa to become a priority partner within Flemish foreign policy. Flemish cooperation initially focused on assistance towards the building of a new, democratic South Africa, but this was subsequently extended to include development cooperation, culture, science and innovation, economy and trade, youth policy and education.
On 28 October 1996 the Treaty between the Government of Flanders and the Government of the Republic of South Africa on cooperation in the fields of education, art, culture, science, technology and sport was signed, and later extended in 2002 to include all Flemish competences. Various actors became involved with this cooperation, from Flemish ministers and government departments, to scientific and tertiary institutions, non-governmental organisations, businesses and private entities.
The Wallonia Export & Investment Agency (AWEX) is the region's organisation responsible for promoting foreign trade and welcoming overseas investors.
